Features
Sonar Professional text-retrieval and document-management systems are designed for archiving, researching, and annotating large bodies of text.
Sonar Professional searches through thousands of documents at extraordinary speeds. Typically 12,500 pages of text can be searched in a second! Even highly complex searches which compare a number of variables can be conducted almost instantly. Sonar Professional provides high-speed-searching features without scanning and optical character recognition. Sonar Professional can process many types of text and word-processing files, so information already contained in computer files can be easily integrated. In a network environment several people can view and search the same or different files, providing for true multi-user capabilities. This makes it simple and inexpensive to build a comprehensive, and enterprise-wide, document-retrieval and management system. The incredible speed and search capabilities of all Sonar products come from the initial setup of an index Sonar's own dictionary of all the words and their exact position in documents. An index session can process a single folder or groups of nested or separate folders, even entire discs. It can run unattended and will automatically index new or changed documents.Complex search queries using synonyms, phonetic matches, wild cards, and word proximities can be easily created. For instance, a typical query could look for any synonym of the word Bronco (utility vehicle, sport vehicle, Ford, truck, and so on) within ten words of either June 17th or any word starting with injur (injury, injuries, and so on). After a search, Sonar displays the full text of each document that was found. Occurrences of key words and phrases are highlighted. At any point a search can be suspended, allowing additional searches while still retaining the results.drill down is a unique feature that greatly simplifies the process of repeated searching. drill down enables the user to specify that additional searches only include those documents already found by the last search. Continually refine search criteria, thereby narrowing the number of documents examined. This becomes especially valuable when key words or phrases are very common in a large number of documents. Occurrences of key words or phrases are displayed in order ranked by frequency. Choose to view searched documents ordered by name or date. Double clicking on the document title brings the full text of the document to the screen. After a search, an instant index can be created which shows every document and page where a search phrase is found. Manufacturer: Virginia Systems, Inc.
